Your insurance: what we need and where to find it

Public Liability + Care, Custody and Control, the £2,000,000 minimum, and how to spot the right policy.

Insurance is the single most important document you upload. It's what allows you to legally work on customers' vehicles and what protects everyone (you, the customer, and Zuno) if something goes wrong. We're strict about this not because we want to be — but because the wrong cover would leave you personally liable for any accidental damage.

    The two covers we need

    Your policy must include both:

    • Public Liability — minimum £2,000,000. Covers harm or damage you accidentally cause to third parties or their property.
    • Care, Custody and Control — also called "treatment risk" on some policies. Covers damage to a customer's vehicle while you're working on it. This is the cover most generic Public Liability policies leave out, and it's the most important one for valeting.

Standard stand-alone Public Liability typically excludes vehicles you're working on. If your policy is silent on Care, Custody and Control, ring your insurer and ask them to confirm in writing before you upload — it's a 5-minute call that saves a rejected application.

    What to upload

Upload a clear photo or PDF of your full insurance certificate — not the policy summary, not the schedule, the certificate itself. It needs to be readable end-to-end so our compliance team can confirm the covers and limits. Accepted formats: JPG, PNG, HEIC, PDF. Maximum 15MB.

If your certificate runs to multiple pages, scan all of them and combine to a single PDF (most phones can do this from the Files app's scan tool).

Finding the details on your certificate

    • Insurance provider name — the company that issued the policy (e.g. Hiscox, AXA, Zurich, Simply Business). Usually in the header of the certificate.
    • Policy number — a reference like PLI-123456789, near your name and address on the certificate.
    • Coverage amount — shown as a pound figure for Public Liability (e.g. £2,000,000 or £5,000,000). Enter it in pounds, not pence.
    • Expiry date — the "until" date of the policy period. We use this to remind you ahead of renewal time.

    What happens after you submit

Once you press Submit, the certificate goes into our compliance review queue. You can't edit the details after this point — if you need to make a change (wrong file uploaded, mistyped policy number), email [email protected] and we'll handle it. Most reviews complete in 24-48 hours.

    If your policy is rejected

The most common rejection reasons are: Care, Custody and Control not included; Public Liability under £2,000,000; certificate uploaded instead of the full policy; or the certificate is so blurry the details can't be confirmed. The rejection email tells you which one applies. You can re-upload an updated certificate from the dashboard without restarting signup.

    Renewal reminders

We'll email you 30 days, 7 days, and on the day before your policy expires. If you don't re-upload an updated certificate by the expiry date, we pause job offers to you. Earnings already due are unaffected — payouts continue as normal — but you won't see new jobs until the new certificate is approved.
